Default ? RTR bits

Hi, picked up a group of pieces that I think are WW2 3rd RTR in origin, can anyone confirm and what is the green dyed scrim for? It is to small for a helmet, at first site I thought it might be off a snooker table but it and the aiguillette are dyed the same green, any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance Mike
