As of 2008, courtesy of canadiansoldiers.com;

The cloth title is no longer worn by the N.I.H., but the small metal maple leaf is still worn by B company at Dunmore (which is in North Belfast), its only worn no No. 2 dress, which is not issued very often. There is another N.I.H. unit, which is 69 (N.I.H.) Signal Sqn. This unit wear a cloth version of the maple leaf badge on the DPM uniform. The badge is a red maple leaf on a green ground.

I think the Leeds Rifles are/were allowed to wear a maple leaf too. Ive seen a white leaf on rifle green cloth badge,reasonably modern type.

I wonder what will become of the Maple Leaf now that the North Irish Horse is part of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry?

Gone i think,unless its been retained by the Troop or Troops based in NI. All the SNIY insignia appears to be based on the Wolfs head with Lances. I dont know if theres a draft of their dress regs online.

Some more info....
Jo

After the war a few soldiers of the North Irish Horse transfered to the Irish Guards.They, unusually were permitted to wear a small maple leaf on the ribbon of the Italy Star,their regiment having served with distinction in a Canadian formation in Italy.The last of the North Irish Horse "maple leaf" men was L/Sgt Cairns who ran the Battalion PRI shop at Hübbelrath in 1962.
