Find unit with a service number ??

Hello,
Is it possible to find the unit or corps of a ww2 south african soldier with his service number ??

The answer is yes and no!

The "block" number system was used in the UDF, however the number allocated to you on attestation say 1001 a Natal Mounted Rifles allocation, the chap might later have be transfered to another unit or service say the Air Force, most kept their original attestation number so unless he or she stayed with the same unit or service, it is true. But if they transfered it is of no help.
