Default Tiptaft Badges

I have a Very Nice Set of Tiptaft Aust Rising Sun Badges that I am about to put up for sale on eBay. This set comprises a Light Horse Badge with Slider (both marked with maker's name and the slider is original), two matching Tiptaft Rising Sun Lapel Badge (maker marked and lugs secure) and a Tiptaft Rising Sun Lapel Badge converted to C Clip. It is my intent to sell them as a group. I am aware the double marked tiptaft sliders are more coveted as they are less likely to have had the slider added. The Badges are located in Australia and the market appears to be a little different for this type of badge from UK to Oz. I have been watching "everyday Light Horse Rising Sun Badges" go fo about $90 - $120 Aust and I am thinking this set could top $300 as the condition is Very Nice. I would be interested in your thoughts please.

Oh I need to add most Tiptaft Light Horse Badges we come across in Oz are only marked on the badge, I wouldn't touch one that is marked on the slider only.

Cheers

Is there providence to say the slider badge was Light Horse?

Slidered rising sun badges were not just worn by the Light Horse.

Other corps wore them as well.

Default Tiptaft Badges

No therre is no providence, I always see the Slider Badges advertised as Light Horse and I must admit I was not aware the Slider Rising Sun Badges were used by other Corps.

I agree with Mick. I have never known slidered Rising Sun badges to be worn exclusively by the Light Horse. In fact I would wager most wore the lugged badge, and more infantrymen wore slidered badges than Light Hosremen. It may be a sales gimmick to attract a higher price.

I am surprised at the price Rising Sun badges attract these days. As a kid, there were literally thousands to be had. Old diggers simply gave them to you or you picked them up in junk shops for a few pence. When you think of it, well over a million were produced

I think calling them "light Horse badges" is just a ploy to try and get higher prices on ebay.

I certainly think that many of the slidered versions on ebay are all well over the odds.

I certainly wouldn't pay some of the asking prices there for what I essentially consider to be a reasonably common badge.

The most recent double stamp hat badge I sold made $220. I agree with Mick that it wouldnt have been just the Light Horse who had these but I recall reading somewhere that the initial batch ordered and made was for the Light Horse.
Happy to be corrected if its not the case.

Default Reference

I appreciate your input, maybe someone can give me a reference for the apparent use of the Slider Rising Sun by other Corps.

In so far as an expected price then maybe $300 is not too far off for the set.

thank you

Hi lionheart
I think the question should be, 'maybe someone can give me a reference for the apparent use of the Slider Rising Sun by LIGHT HORSE RGTS only."

It’s really only been the last 10yrs that the sliders were referred to as light horse badges. I also suspect to cash in on the popularity of the "light horse"

My opinion is that they were ordered and issued due to the lack of supply coming from Australia. Easier and quicker to order them from the UK and as the Aussies were stationed locally before going across to France.
there were more infantry and corps than light horse units in England and France so it would make sense more of the locally made slider tiptaft badges be issued to the them as opposed to having to ship them all the way to the middle east were there were more light horse than infantry and corps.

As for the price, i dont believe they are that rare. good luck with the sale. i hope you get $300+ for them. i would only pay half that, tops. but i do have about 15-20 of them.

hi julian
it does have a lack of detail and depth, expected with the tiptaft badges but i would still be happy with it.
