Default victorian officers volunteer welsh glengarry badge

Hi all
Just thought I would share with you my new badge.
I believe it’s a Victorian officer’s Volunteer Welsh Glengarry badge but stand to be corrected.
Would like some info if possible, please
What period would this have been worn?
Is it on the correct hat?
What’s the significance of the red background?
Thanks in advance
BC

BC,

A superb original Welsh Regiment VB Officers glengarry and badge.

Worn at various times in different Regiments prior to the issue of the FS Cap in the mid 1890's.

The red backing maybe a variation worn in that particular Bn. whichever it was,

regards

Hi BC
My word, you have picked up some nice items recently ! This one in particular is a gem. Dealing with your queries ;
(1) Yes it is indeed an Officers Glengarry of a VB The Welsh Regimet.
(2) It would have been worn in the period c.1881 to 1896.
(3) Yes it is correctly mounted on the correct hat.
(4)The red cloth background was commonly worn with this device on the glengarry cap for both Officers and ORs although it seems to have been an option rather than a requirement.
Congratulations on an excellent "find". Congrats too for your HAC shako.
Regards Jeff

Lovely item. Very jealous as I only have the glengarry badge without the glengarry.

Really a stunning badge to see still on its cap, very nice. Do this type of Glengarry have a toorie on the top?

Sorry that I only just noticed your reply, it looks great and I assume you sold it. I would have liked to have bought it if given the chance.

It really is a great looking cap and badge, so cool to see both still together.

I had forgotten that I had taken these to show the regular & volunteer badges for comparison.

Spot the difference in the spelling.

Very nice Kev, These have the Neu spelling as opposed to Na in the thread starter.
