Default 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards

I bought this badge on eBay on a low bid as it was unidentified.
Am now pleased that it has been now identified as the front plate of the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards and was used from 1873 onwards.
Apparently the badge is on display at the RDG Museum at York.
Certainly glad I took the chance with my winning bid!

Peter
Dragoon Guards Plate centres have a brass belt and a white metal number with Black backing, yours looks like a White metal belt and a brass number which is Dragoons, but there is no 4th Dragoons. If im wrong im sure somebody on the forum will correct me.
Heres a link to my DG album http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=887
All the best
Malc

Peter, As Malc has pointed out, its not a 4RIDG. I would say that someone has put the wrong number in the centre. All of 'this type' i.e. Dragoon Guards rather than Dragoons (with the exception of the bronze types) should be like the pic enclosed.

Sorry Guys, I have only just come across your posts in response to mine!
How I missed the I do not know!
The Curator at the Museum in York said he had a badge just like mine in a helmet as used from 1873 onwards.
So I am a bit mystified!
