Hi Patrick what you have is the Mazeas C-17 cap badge of the 8th PLNBH. It was worn in Canada before and up to 2ndWW( from 1921 to 1942) and then once overseas the PLNBH had a new badge made up which is Mazeas C-60. Chris Brooker said in a letter to me in 1995 that the 2nd (R) Batt. continued to wear C-17.(Today, they wear a bi-metal copy of C-60.) Also if you can find the Regimental History of the unit there is a citation about the two badges.
Hoping this will help. Jo Last edited by Voltigeur; 30-07-08 at 08:38 PM. Reason: correction of text |

I'm not aware that this badge has ever been re-struck. (Who would bother, they're quite common & not worth much.) At any rate, your's is marked 'Lackie Toronto' & almost certainly real.
The C.60 badge on the other hand, has been widely re-struck. These overseas pattern badges were made in England, & the dies have been passed around the blacksmith shops for 60 plus years. |
