Smile RCAC Badges

G'Day mateys,

I'm an Aussie collector of Canadian Armoured Corps badges and was wondering if there are any books or good online resources I can use to identify WW2 and post WW2 RCAC badges?

Mick

ps

What would be the more rarer post WW2 RCAC regimental badges?

Default Post War Canadian armoured regiments

Hi Mick, There are a couple of general collectors books if you can find them. (I would check ABE books for these titles.)
Thompson Roy, Cap Badges & Insignia of the Canadian Army 1953-1973.
Tripp F. Canada's Army in World War II.
In addition to these collector's handbooks, I would reccomend Marteinson et al, The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps: An Illustrated History. This includes many illustrations including badge graphics.

As far as post war Canadian armoured regiment / corps / branch badges, most are available, and should be reasonable prices. There are a couple of exceptions to this, the Halifax Rifles in queen's crown and the 19 Alberta Regiment RCAC. The last badge was only used for a short period of time from the late 40's to 1954. That was then replaced by the 19th Alberta Dragoons pattern badge. (The 19th Alberta Dragoons have a long history and many patterns of badges that are very similar.)

Mick, I would second the "thumbs up" for "The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps" by by Marteinson and McNorgan ISBN 1-896941-17-6. It illustrates the Order of Battle of the corps at signifacant moments in its history. This allows you to build a collection for:
Pre 1914 - Canadian Cavalry
WW1
Post WW1 with amalgamations of "new" cavalry regiments in 1936, Armoured Car regiments in 1936, New tank regiments created in 1936.
WW2
New regiments to the corps 1946 - 1954
Changes in name 1946-1954
Orbat for the corps 2000 as well as those regiments on the Supplementary Order of Battle of the RCAC 2000.

Its a great book and well worth the 50-75 dollar price.

Cheers,

Greg
