This is my Lugged version
I can provide a better image plus the rear, a little later if required.

Lugged and the scroll was blank from the die and has not been erased or the like.

Thanks Guys,
I picked this one up off eBay this week, I've seen them before with the half bowl arrangement to the rear and immediately dismissed them as fakes! This one however appears to have some, is a good weight and has some apparent age and signs of use! It arrived with the slider detached and has had a temporary repair! The reverse detail to the base scroll is not great but otherwise not a bad striking? Is this perhaps a makers variation to add strength (?) which has then been faked? Or just an old looking fake?

Andy

I have one similar to yours Andy. I have had it some time, 15 years perhaps, but in recent times I have thought it must be duff, mainly due to what is on the forum. Regards, Paul.

Paul,
I'd previously thought the same, but this one makes me think again!

My one looks the same strike. Would also like any thoughts on my latest 4th Dorsetshire- end of this thread. Regards, Paul.

I used to have one of these but it just felt and looked 'wrong' so I replaced it. It's an old fake imo and made using dodgy dies; hence the odd construction. The decades gives it a genuine patina but the badge remains dodgy. Look at the awful face of the sphinx.

Just saw this. Not sure on the TF connection and the blank plinth, but it does look from the badge slider construction as an original badge.

The scroll has been erased with some sort of power tool to grind off the detail in my opinion.

he also has this beauty http://www.ebay.com/itm/British-Pre-...item3a95409ded so the collection is not 100% pure as that is a fantasy badge.

And this repro:

yes, understood Alan. I mentioned the plinth being iffy. But the badge itself looks light. I was just pointing out the style of manufacture is a possible Ok version. So Andy's is OK maybe.

Simon,
I'm pretty sure that one is a fake and thanks for all those who have replied! I remain unsure so this one will stay in the "? Box" rather than "File 13"!

I don't know Andy. I would say on face value it has some extra positives than the one you post IMO. Sharper, and with gold braze. Just because from as Alan's say's he has two questionable one's, doesn't make the rest the same. I checked a few of his others and they all look fine to me.

I mean I've checked the sites out of some dealers that are spoken of highly on the forum, and with my limited knowledge I can spot more than a few duffers on them. Doesn't mean I discount all of what they have. In fact I've found some gems from Ebay sellers who total listing's were junk; except this one I spotted for example. Cost me 10 pound.

Either way, as you say. Put it to one side, as you never know. I just thought the one I showed, proved the type of manufacture legit. As I think it looks like a logical method for ease of manufacture.

Cheers

Simon.

At the risk of self-publicity, Andy, I have one on my site at present:

http://www.britisharmybadges.com/vie...h=52039&phqu=2

I don't promise this picture will be there for a long time.

I can't honestly say I like your specimen much and it is very different to mine (not necessarily wrong because of that). I don't think I'd be a buyer or selling of it.

Regards,

David.
