I am not anywhere near an expert, Phil, but as understand it, it is simply a variant (KK 683 as opposed to the shorter scroll, KK 682).

Your example looks similar (to me) to mine, but I will say mine seems to have a slightly more defined reverse. I will try and post a pic tomorrow.

Cheers, Tim

Thanks Tim, all my books are in storage, including K&K. I am pleased to have got this one, finally

Good to see. It's a great badge. The front is same as mine, and I am absolutely not casting any dispersions on the back, just noting a slight difference. I am a novice!
Thanks for showing it.

Cheers, Tim

Smile HLI

Phil,

I think this is a manufacturers variation and nothing to do with TF HLI as they had either blank or SA Hons scrolls.

This long scroll Assaye badge is attributed to a member of the 14th Service Battalion. The lugs have been removed and replaced by a brooch fitting. The 14th were a Glasgow Bantam battalion but I doubt that this long scroll variant was bespoke to them but was likely issued to several other Service Battalions.

Default Long scroll variant

Here is my long scroll ASSAYE cap badge, this has no flaw on the trumpet and lettering is spaced further apart.

What is the view on this one.

Colin.

Not the same die, wonky jewels in the crown and hash of a monogram on first badge.

I like your badge Leigh and would be happy to have it in my collection.

Thanks, I couldn't make up my mind re. the die, comparing badge with image on phone.

The only other long scroll I have, it has the die flaws on horn and scroll.
