Default Infantry Volunteer Bns

Someone posted a link to a superb list of the VBs, their numbers and home location some while ago. I did save it as a favourite, but it appears to have been lost on my upgrade to Windows 10.

Could someone please repost?

Many thanks

Andy

The information is also shown at Appendix I in the Third Edition of Gaylor.

I can only offer you the table of VBs, but not their home locations.

Third item from the top at:

No mate, I had that but it is very useful!

I have all the info I was seeking from Gaylor, so thanks Peter! I use an early copy for daily reference so forgot all about the info in the later editions

Thanks all!

Andy

Is that question for me?

When yes, the table I offer is based partly on it (or both based on the same data, I hope). But the Wikipedia Childers table only shows (with respect to the volunteer battalions) which RVCs went into what regiment. It does not show if, when and how these RVCs were redesignated as Volunteer Battalions to reflect their status as volunteer battalions. Nor does it show which RVCs were transferred to other regiments after 1881.

I think a more direct comparison can be made between the Wikipedia one and the this one: http://hcvv.home.xs4all.nl/milweb/Gr...lders-1881.pdf

Interesting stuff Henk, but we still don't' seem to have found the linked list that Andy is trying to track down. It sounds like a very useful resource if it lists all the sub-unit 'drill halls'.

No doubt about that. It would be very interesting.
