Don't forget that there were a fair number of cadet forces attached to the Middlesex Regiment who also wore the blue beret with Middlesex badge and the two colour backing.

My former school, Harrow County Grammar was one and was several hundred strong, the insignia worn by both the Army and Basic sections. At one point the unit introduced Company colours based on the house colours with a rectangle worn by most but a diamond worn by cadets of HQ Company.

In the absence of official issue maybe because of lack of stock something like his could have been made up in the school. The house colours differed over the years on shirts and sports kit etc, one going from maroon to brown.

Oh yes, looks Sputnik. Big enough to take the ORs badge with scroll, different construction, maroon rather than red - I stick to my previous, mines other than Middlesex or a Middlesex old comrade cobbling a representation together.
Seems strange on a 1955 rather than a newer beret if the latter.......
Had wondered about cadets - could be.......
