Default WW2 Canadian Parachute Wing Type 6 on E-bay

Hello,

I Have been studying this wing and believe it's an excellent reproduction. Sadly, I can't put my finger on where I've seen that type of construction before but if one looks at Ken Joyce's book you'll see it doesn't look right?

I must add that I believe the seller in all honesty believes it to be an original.

I can't seem to post the link, but if you cut and paste the above link it should work!

Thoughts?

Paul

Paul, The vendor ran that wing by me, and in my opinion it looks okay.

Hi Bill,

That's good to hear. It's just something nagging me about the wings, but it could be old age!

Interested to hear what others think as Type 6 wings are rarely seen.

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul, There are a lot of phoney Type 6 badges being offered, but the construction of this one is consistent with authentic T 6 examples.

For what it's worth, Ken Joyce mentioned on another forum that he believes the wings to be suspicious. It's somewhat amusing to me that the seller of the badge in question is using Ken's book as a reference considering Ken's opinion of the badge.

Yes I've seen Ken's reply on the other forum.

Bill, however, has handled the wing which makes a big difference when determining a good badge from a bad.

At the end of the day each collector has to happy with what they're buying and make their own decisions.

Clarification, I did not handle the badge, only viewed it. Steve, in his book Ken indicates the type 6 wings were private purchase, late 1944. There are copies of the Type 6 on ebay and other venues, but they are constructed differently than this one. Either way, the opening bid certainly allows the bidder to decide if they are period.

To be clear, I am not giving an opinion either way as I have no experience with this variation of wing and only have Ken's book as a reference. Just sharing the opinion of another knowledgeable collector. If I came across this badge and the price was right I would probably take a chance as it looks well constructed. I suppose I could add that the color and type of thread does look very much like that used on a very nice repro WW2 Canadian pilot's wing that I recently picked up off ebay.

That's the beauty of this forum as we get many views on insignia and it's up to the collector to be happy with what they are buying before they hit the 'bid' button.

I've purchased many items because I liked the look of a piece of insignia and am still happy with what I have in my collection.

It will be interesting to see what the wings sell for?

Regards and thanks

Paul
