Default Unidentified Foreign Uniform - Italian ?

Have had this photographic postcard for years and have never been able to identify the Country or indeed the Unit of the Man shown. I wondered if he could be Italian as the shape of the Crown on the cap resembles the Italian style however in the centre there is a cross which seems to rule that out.

Any help appreciated and yes, due to the lockdown I'm digging out all sorts of old bits and pieces around the house!

Regards Simon.
