This is a mystery to me, 3x the market rate in my opinion and I'm sceptical the badge is original to the beret (note the seller just sold a fake 46 Cdo BD for £700 too with no returns). It was touched on here:
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=59322 Judging by Bosleys as well this week, I think Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have just started collecting...

As I've said on the airborne forum, if I was in the market for another Cdo beret I'd buy the 42 dated one from Steve Britton, so much rarer than a 44 dated one. In all likelihood from the first ever batch as HM King only approved it on the 28th September, and a much cheaper price. Still high IMHO though hence not selling yet, but a bargain in comparison!
And no I'm not on commission

I don't think you are missing anything, certainly not in that auction at least, it is not a particularly rare item, it's value is far less than the price achieved.

Blame the likes of Combat Dealers on TV.

I very much doubt that Bruce would want to pay £500 let alone in excess of £2000!
