I have already posted a warning about this fake badged pith helmet in the Fakes section of this forum.
This fake was in the James and Sons Auction, held on November 30, 2016, lot 169. I did contact James & Sons, at the time, but they did not consider my email warranted a reply. Keith

I suggest fools, as there would be an under bidder, who it would appear would have been delighted to waste his money too.

The formula is simple, find a suitable hat, copy badge and presto - a gem that any special forces collector must have!!!
I find it frustrating that these crooks are not taken to task and just get away with it all the time. I contact auctioneers and email eBay sellers but all I get in return is verbal abuse or ignored. Shame on them... In a few months time the buyer will realise he has bought rubbish but have no way of getting a refund. Just like the fella on this forum who lost his fake silver LRDG badges that had spurious Egyptian hallmarks and were housed in Cairo jewellers boxes. Buy the item, not the story. Buy the badge, and don't be fooled by the hat it is attached to or box in which it is contained. “There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” ― Søren Kierkegaard Keith

Quite frankly, I would not say "any special force collector" I think there is a profound difference between any serious collector and the "fool" that Andy refers to.
The former that I know all do their homework rather well and take matters very seriously indeed and certainly would not be taken in by this particular seller. Quote:
