Default 9th Lancers

A Mk V of the "Queen's Royal" Lancers pre war, I find it absolutely staggering that members of both the RTR and the Cavalry had to actually take similar to war in 1940!

Does anyone know if RTR/Cavalry regiments so equipped in France or Africa during 1940 actually had any .50 calibre ammunition for their main armament, the Vickers MG, to use against the wretched Hun or Macaroni, or were they reliant on their .303 MG?
