hi paul
what is the story behind the cef pins? i assume they are seethearts badges? were they the cap or collar badges given a different finish and or enamel? were there many enameled cef officers badges? lots of questions for you but im sure you know the answers. btw, these are a fantastic looking badge. i had about 50 of these many years ago. bought them as i thought they were officers badges. didnt pay much for them and when i sold them didnt get much for them either. do they have a $ value now, as compared to the cef badge? bc |

wow lots of questions OK
The CEF AND FOR THAT MATTER LATER SWEETHEART PINS where designed as canteen and some special order gifts for that special person back home as a reminder of your service affiliation most often made on a collar planchet and gilted or silver washed for canteen sales the better ones where sterling silver and sometimes gold often with dazling enamel works that show workmanship not possible today. Some CEF units allowed officers to wear insignia which was high grade with enamels examples are the 107th and the 195th battns 181st. Values today seem to start now at 35.00 and well I paid 350.00 for a machinegun draft pin a couple years ago. Hope that answers them all if not come back . I have last count around 600 in the collection and will throw some on here from time to time . PAUL |

Just to show how spectacular sweetheart pins could get, check this one on eBay at the moment: 140249420173
Saw some British artillery sweetheart pins awhile ago on an online auction that were paved with diamonds, one was platinum, the other gold. Wish I'd kept the pics, they were something else for sure. |

Just put some pins on my Album here is a rare beaut that was made in 1914 in England for the PPCLI kit shop when they first arrived as they where the very first combat unit to be deployed overseas in WW1 and actually served in France under British command until after the first div arrived.
