Dave moved the lugs on a helmet plate that a friend of mine wanted to put on a helmet and when finished you could not tell any alterations had been done, a real craftsman.

My mind is taken back a few years to now departed Dave C who was paid by a former forum member to change lugs for blades on officers collar badges which were then sold a cap badges........

I don't know of anyone who can actually match the colour of braize though, it's not so bad on loops where you can get away with a minimum amount of silver solder but with a slider replacement it always looks a bit grey. Thankfully I don't think there are any slidered badges I need so it's not a problem for me these days. |

I think it absolutely destroys it, what is the point, that degree of originality is lost forever, by the addition of new lugs/blades/sliders, the lost patination and so on, unless you actually want to wear it.

I can remember a conversation with the late Hugh King who told me Warren had repaired something for him and you had a job to see what he'd done, I wonder who has this item or items in their collection? Rob |
