Default LRDG Group photo

Was going through my pictures a few months back and started scanning them.

One was of a group of 4 soldiers in the LRDG. Not sure whether they are British or Rhodesian (Picture was found in Cape Town, South Africa)

Are any of these guys recognizable to the LRDG specialists?

In "LRDG Rhodesia" by Jonathan Pittaway and Craig Fourie there is a photo of a group of 4 soldiers and the location looks very similar , possibly a local photographer snapping 'tourist' pics ?

Would 4 soldiers constitute a section of some description? Sort of "class photo"???

Yes .

Each troop consists of a number of 4-man patrols, each typically led by a corporal.

Thanks Mike. It was just a thought.

As suggested, the similarity of the background would lead to the conclusion that these photos were taken either around the same time and certainly at the same place.

As a footnote, you sometimes see group photos from both WW1 & 2 that have been taken in the Middle East that feature a number chalked on a small sign at ground level (much as you would have a label that said what you had planted in your allotment....).

This does not appear to be a feature of these photos but I was told that it enabled the sitters to uplift their photos from the "studio" by quoting the number.
