Default Scots Guards backing

Gents, I've had this anodised Scots Guards SNCO'S & bandsmans cap badge some years now. It came with the tartan backing as per the attached photos. The tartan is stitched on to a blue backing.

I suspect it is incorrect- can anyone shed any light on this for me at all.

Many thanks in advance chaps

Bess

Hi Bess, maybe the blue backing is just to stiffen the tartan? I’ve a couple of tartan backings ( different regiments)that have had an additional piece of tartan added or another cloth , even a piece of cardboard added at the back ??

Ah sorry thought you meant the blue backing was odd I’d have to check the tartan later , hopefully someone will confirm in the meantime.

Hi,
Whilst i am not an expert on such things, i do believe that they wear the Royal Stewart Tartan and that looks like a small piece to me.
I'm sure some of the Guardsmen will be able to offer confirmation or not
Regards
Steve

My understanding is that the Scots Guards officers wear a piece of Royal Stewart tartan behind their badge. The OR I believe wear the blue-red-blue ribbon. The officers badges is also a larger version of their rank pips. Looks ot be a lovely badge and backing in my book! Thanks to Bill for sharing this info with me as I am looking for one of these, and if I've got it wrong, hope he'll correct my errors.

That is the correct Royal Stewart tartan. The backing is immaterial and just added for reinforcement.
