Perhaps, as has been alluded to, some pre-purchase research and due diligence wouldn't have gone amiss. Regards. Brian. |

I don't know much about medals but - how do you differentate a MC awarded in the 1st War or in the 2nd War ??
And why don't have the name engraved on the reverse ?? just learning.... |

MC's started to be dated on the rear in 1937 I think. Any WWII MC would have the year of the gazette engraved on the rear.

Mike, If you look at the original ebay sale, the medal was removed from its box and a rear shot is shown. I suspect he new it was not genuine and tried to sell it off via Ebay and got caught out....

Since he was a 'collector' selling off "the cream of his collection" and has been selling medals for years I'm sure he realised he had bought a dud and was trying to sell it on. .

Julian, WW2 military Cross monogram is GRI and is quite different to GR on earlier one so is quite easy to spot. Hope this helps.

Thank you all, I have my Gfather's miniatures (the real ones are elsewhere).
But yes, I can see a G with a squiggle in the middle. Anyway, I knew it was 1916. (he suggested collecting badges when I was a teenager!) Last edited by KLR; 29-06-22 at 09:31 AM. |
