Unknown officer's rank badge.
This came in a job lot of badges and is almost certainly not British. It has a maker's mark, B&W, to the reverse. It is a large badge, presumably worn on the collar in facing pairs.
I cannot find it in either volume of Guido Rosignoli's badges and insignia of WW2. Any thoughts please? |

I had thought that you were joking but having searched for Star Trek rank badges, I now know that, to my amazement, they have a whole command structure with badges of rank all worked out and produced for sale.
Luckily, my one doesn't appear so I canl go on believing that is a officer's rank badge from an, as yet unknown, banana republic where they wear big hats and have large rank badges to compensate for their lack of military hardware. |

My first thought was a soviet era cosmonaut badge .
The star with 'trail' is used by numerous countries and the 'rounded' front edge reminded me of the Sputnik symbol/logo. NASA have a badge for those who complete astronaut candidate training. .

The brooch type fastener I see regularly on badges produced in the 1970's to 1990's, so that may help with dating the badge
