Default Unusual Notts & Derby

Did anyone else notice this unusual Notts and Derby badge recently on eBay.

Oddly placed loops on the scroll and also a slider, a bit reminiscent of the RA beret badge.

Has anyone seen another like it?

Didn't see it Luke. If I had and it was cheap, might have gone for it - I like anything unusual.

I did'nt see that Notts & Derby but I've had one for around 30 years.
(Just checked - make that had it for around 40 years - picked up at "Granta Stamps and Coins", Cambridge, on 28/3/83 for £3).

Interesting ! I would have thought that loops at the bottom of the badge would cause it to fall forward - particularly on a beret. Which is why sliders were added !

I have a number of KLR badges with loops at the ends on the scroll - 1896 Pattern (regular, VB and TF) and 1926 (regular and TF) - quite a lot, including officer's badges S&G and OSD, also Pattern 1950 officer's S&G.

The only ones (three) that have had loops on scrolls removed and slider attached are those on the Foreign Service badges.

Is there any reference to the slider + loops combo in the KC Royal Artillery beret badge SP Julian? That’s probably the most well known and common example of this unusual configuration.

Perhaps it was a short-lived beret configuration for these infantry regiments?

Most of the data on badges that I have concentrates on infantry cap badges - for comparanda.

However, I have found that the smaller (beret) RA badge was Pattern 13910/1947 sealed on 16.10.1947. There was no information on fixings.
But I'm sure that others know MUCH more about RA badges than I do!
