21SAS adopted a white metal Mars and Minerva badge with ARTISTS scroll, due to low numbers of these being available a number of requests were made to ex members of the Artists to donate any spare badges to the regiment. As such both the 1908 and 1938 pattern badge was worn. There has even been talk to some early members of 21SAS wearing a white medal Artists Rifles badge, but I am yet to find photographic evidence of this.

Thank you for your informative response.
I have a Wm Artists badge which came with a number of other nice badges from a friends Dad, swapped for a bottle of whiskey!
I'll post a pic later to see what you think.
Cheers

My white metal Artists. As I said it was from a friends Dad who worked in a junk shop, he used to pick out the odd badge that he liked and kept them. So I got them for a bottle of whiskey.
Question is, is the badge a goodun,?
Thanks for your time

Some officers were known to wear a frosted silver plated badge, this would have loops and be marked P.

White metal M&M collar badges were authorised for wear, but only with the green patrol uniform - which was not an issue uniform. There is evidence that this was worn, complete with SAS wings.

3dg,

From the pics you've posted, I'd say your badge appears to be pukka, but if you are able to post better/clearer close ups, it'd be helpful.

Cheers,

JT

Thanks 3dg,

I'm certainly no expert, but I cannot see anything that would set off alarm bells for me.

I know sometimes the heads of the snakes can appear a little cartoonesque, and therefore a cause for concern.

A bit of a cop out, but I am sure more knowledgeable members will be able to offer a more rounded appraisal.

JT
