Default Cap Tallies with a 'Dot' at the end

Can anyone supply an accurate time/date for use of a full-stop after the ship's name, etc on cap tallies. Specifically when the practise was officially stopped, etc ?
Was this origionally Grammatical, with the use of 'proper' & 'common' nouns ?
Of course, abbreviations should always have these !

Default Cap tallies

Hi Dragonz18.

The short answer is pre WW2. But this web site should give you more information....

http://www.nhcra-online.org/19c/captallies.htm

This was discussed on this forum a month or so ago concerning a Combined Ops. cap tally.

All the best,
Alan.
