Hi Jo, the second title is Owen 1266. The first title(Owen 1265) was worn on the great coats of 1st SAI Brigade. The second title was worn on the tunic. These were worn by all 4 SAI Battalions. At least this is my understanding. Regards Andrew

Hi,
Just taken a look at the links of the two titles. My understanding of there use is somewhat different to Andrew's and is based mostly on photographic evidence. The first title is the standard issue and most prolific title worn on tunic epaulets by all 4 battalions of the SAI Brigade. Each battalion wore the number of the battalion above the title. The second title is in my opinion a private purchase item and worn similarly to the first title on the tunic epaulets. There are also a number of other private purchase titles worn by the various battalions, the most striking of which been the springbok and thistle titles of the 4th battalion. Regards Steven |
