Keith,

That surname is either to a Foreign National, which of course is possible, or its spelled wrong as it does not appear ONCE in the whole of Ancestry's records, not in the LG or in my Army Lists.

sorry.

regards

I did a search of the letters and it came up with a guy who had been in the Canadian Engineers call Prosser.....obviously nothing to do with our guy but the initials came up
R.E.I.W.D.D
He had been in the Royal Engineers Inland Waterways And Docks Department!
Interesting but probably just a long shot.
Cheers
Sean

Hi Keith, normally pretty good at this type of stuff, but unfortunately no trace on a variety of websites, even using a variety of possible misspellings. Best of luck with it. Regards Mark

Simon, Sean and Mark thank you.

Quite a puzzle, and will probably remain a mystery.

However I wonder if Sean has it right and it is an officer with the initials KM who was in the Royal Engineers Inland Waterways and Docks Department?

The CCG did have management control over the German inland waterways and docks and would certainly have had Royal Engineers Officers with specialist knowledge to advise etc.

Keith
