Default Sudan badges at Bosleys

Hi Guys

The Sudan badges at upcoming Bosley's auction..the Berber province and others I think are the same ones that came up early in March this year at Lockdales?

If so, did he buy them and is putting them up for auction now, or is it another collector/dealear ..If that's the case, its not good for collectors as the price keeps going higher and higher for these items I feel..He has some lovely silver badges but I'm afraid they will go for top prices. Not that I bid at Bosley's (a couple of unpleasant experiences and lack of basic courtesy) but one really hopes that the prices stay at reasonably stable levels that are affordable to the average collector and not just those with deep pockets -which is increasingly the case these days..

I'm only able to add to my collection these days as some good dealers like QMS, Castle, GN are kind enough to allow me to pay in instalments..

I recently saw a Gurkha badge go at Bosley's for £350 plus fees only to be listed a week later by another online dealer for £850 - I'd always thought that Bosley's achieved the highest prices - but apparently not?

Cool Price rises . . !

Some twenty five years ago I saw at a local auction a 1930's ambulance in mint condition in the original box, I thought it would make £100 or thereabouts.

Surprise, surprise it made £1,000+commision etc.

A local toy collector told me a month later it made £3,000 in a London auction.

So nothing changes . . !

Did the on line dealer subsequently sell the badge concerned?

This type of situation is crazy. I have been watching a badge on a dealers site for 6 years now. He wants $800, I feel $300-400 is the correct figure. It just stays there, likely forever.....

I often see badges/insignia, from eBay that I bid on, on dealer websites with exorbitant price tags. Of course they stay on the websites and remain unsold, if I had wanted to pay more I would have bid more on eBay!

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

Thanks Simon,

Not too bad, actually! Did you get them?

I thought the Berber would go for more. It made 300 at Lockdales earlier this year + comm. Good for the hobby if prices remain at reasonable levels..

I usually collect only hallmark silver badges - and only Indian Army. I quite like the Sudan badges but I think I will have to wait a long time before I get any of these : )

Khyber,

No I didnt bid on them as I dont collect them, BUT, greatly admire their form and style and quality of manufacture.

I wish I had got into African and Asian (British) badges 40 years ago but just didnt have the knowledge and now they are just too expensive for me.

regards

Simon, on a slightly different note, did you see what lot 491 went for?

Regards Ian
