Royal Irish Reserve Shoulder Titles
In D.A. Campbell’s article ‘Royal Reserve Regiments: Boer War’, it is stated that the Royal Irish Regiment and Royal Irish Fusiliers reserves wore shoulder titles with a crown above a shamrock and R.R. below (F.R.R. for the RIF). I don’t suppose anyone has any examples of these, or images they would be willing to share?

The R.I. Reserve Regiment shoulder title sold as part of lot 375, Thomas Del Marr Auction 24 Apr. 2018. If I remember correctly part of the Charles Thomas collection.
Note the shamrock is that repurposed by the mounted infantry company of the IG as a collars badge for the frock. John |

Wonderful as ever, John. Many thanks.
So, it’s actually a four-part assemblage. I was expecting at least the crown and shamrock to be attached, similar to the 14th Bat. RIR. Do you know much about the Irish reserves during the Boer War?

I only know basic general knowledge, such as dates of raising and disbandment. It was a short lived program and I recall some references to the army struggling to find uses for the units. There is some data on recruiting levels in Hansard. This link may be of interest, https://www.nickmetcalfe.co.uk/the-r...ison-regiment/ John |
