Default Combat rank insignia

I am looking for several pair of these little 'pips' as worn in the early days of Combats (OG64) - prior to the introduction of the universal rank insignia. I am looking for singles or pairs and for both the regular pattern as well as the Guard's pattern.

Cannot say I ever saw plastic pips in use? other than perhaps on the overseas OG/KD Shirt & Jacket, but mostly the smaller khaki cloth examples were worn by many officers on Green Combats.

When the 1960 Pattern combats first came out it was common just to use the No2 Dress Pips & Crowns as well as Warrant Officers or Chevrons till the introduction of the Black on Green OR & Slip on's for Officers in the early 1970's for use with DPM issues (in fact some officers wore Black on Green Slip on's almost from the start)

I would be interested on how others remember however?

Hi Mike, Clive is referring to the Canadian issue combat uniform, and I believe you are referring to the Brit pattern?

Default Combat Pips

I believe that this is the type of 'pip' that Clive is looking for. As far as I know, there was only one type of Combat pip made for field use.

I think you are correct Ed. I don't remember seeing any special pattern rank stars for the combat.

So, now that everyone knows what I am looking for it is time to go digging through your drawers of odds and ends and send me all of your combat pips (no oranges...or leeks)

Clive, I just checked with the former Regt Adjt of the Canadian Guards and he confirmed that they wore the "normal" combat pips (he checked his badges stash and found some combat slip-ons) and that there were not any combat Guards pips produced.

Ah, but the GGFG, my old regiment, wore an 8-pointed Star of the Order of the Garter.
