'Bonnets and Badges of the Scottish Regiments'
Here's an interesting page from a 1915 edition of 'The War Illustrated', titled: 'Bonnets and Badges of the Scottish Regiments'.
I've divided the page up for clearer viewing: Dec 4th 1915.jpg Scots 1.jpgScots 2.jpgScots 3.JPGScots 4.JPGScots 5.jpgScots 6.jpgFoot.jpg Regards, PJ |

There are quite a few pages like this in the 1915 WI - infantry and cavalry cap badges etc.

Hi Peter, would you know if there is any difference in the bonnet itself comparing a WW1 and WW2

The WW1 ORs glengarries had a leather band, but this had become cloth by WW2.

Did you spot the 'deliberate' mistake in amongst the glengarry illustrations Peter?
They look like they came from the Officers Dress Regs too, but I am not sure whether from the 1900, or the 1911 iteration. |

It shows the Royal Scots as having a plain blue glengarry rather than the chequered red, green, white, they wore in WW1 (and subsequently).
I think that the illustration might be from the 1900 Dress Regs and I am wondering if they did start with plain blue and then moved to chequered later. I do not have my books to hand to check. |

I seem to be able to track down hardly any info online relating to the various types worn by Scottish regiments. Is this a bit of a neglected area? PJ Last edited by Peter J; 10-09-11 at 01:56 PM. |

I enclose a WW2 equivalent attempt by a publication to show the Scottish head dress circa 1941. Notice there was even a difference in the shape of the rosette on the glengarry with some having two leafs and some four. |
