Default 1st Airborne Div Pictures

Guys
i managed to pick up from an auction some documents, and in them were the following pictures.
I put a bid in after seeing a pic with what looked like Urqhuart on it.
On the back of some of them are details appertaining to a Signalman HB Savill,14227614.
(Can anyone find any info out on this chap at all for me, as i had no response from the R Corps of Sigs museum - again).
Weird, in the large group photo, he is marked with a cross, on the 3rd row up, 4th from the left; however, it is a Signals officer (with a proper airborne beret) that features in all 3 photos.
THere is also one that has the Princess Royal (Princess Mary) in uniform (she is Colonel In Chief of the Royal Corps of Signals).
On that photograph the offr on the front row, 2nd from the left has the light bulb on his arm, and not para wings.
Hope these are of interest to some of you.
Regards

Smile Airborne Pics

I am not a specialist in SF items, but what a great selection of photos, the names of Browning and Frost I'm sure would appear somewhere on the names.

Default 1st Airborne Div Pictures

Jon,
Will have to do further research on the other officers (first small group photograph-Attachment 23433), but the colonel seated immediately to then MGen R.E. Urqhuart's right is Col Graeme M. Warrack OBE, DSO, Asst Dir Med Services, 1st Airborne Division. He was a stalwart during the Battle of Arnhem, remained behind with the wounded, and became a POW.
Regards,
Jim

Default London Gazette

hi Jon,

Have you tried looking in the London Gazette archive?
Great source for commissions, promotions and medals for WW2
veterans, specially if you have the name and army number.

best regards,

Johan

Default Signalman rank

HI Johan
nice to hear from you mate.
The picture marked with an X is for the soldier with the rank of Signalman, as is his Norway Certificate, so he is an other rank, not an officer, hence me contacting the Royal Signal Museum,
They are pretty rubbish at returning calls/emails though, even for ex scaleys!!
hope all is good with you
jon
