Cheshire Regiment - lugged Edwardian.
A nice two piece bimetal badge to the Cheshire Regiment with lugs and central brazing hole. I think this is ok as an Edwardian cap badge as collars with title scroll were only in bronze from my reading of Churchill's book on collars. So pre-1908 I should think and what a lovely patina.

1898-1923, First issued 1st December 1900. From volume 1 the story of the 22nd (Cheshire) regiment. A bit of info from the history:- In 1898 the regiment had it's cap badge changed for it by Whitehall ' a new cap badge was foisted on to us and our ancient cross-cut Brunswick star was liquidated'.

I have what looks to be the same badge. The slider has broken off the back, and someone in the past has brazed/soldered a pin on to it. you can see the broken pin assembly on the right of the picture, and the place to secure the pin on the left, seems the pin itself is long gone. Would the broken slider make this pre 1903?. I don't suppose this is of any great value. Thanks in advance.

Post not pre 1903.
the dating of the first one as 1898-1903 is not quite right. It was sealed in 1898 but continued to be worn with lugs on side caps etc in India up to WW1. They were made with sliders for the Brodrick and from 1905 the peaked cap but side caps continued to be worn overseas for some years. |

Thanks David,
I'm new to all this, I inherited some badges from my father-in-law who passed away last month aged 91. |

Hi Rizzo,
The Lincolnshire badge you show is a pre-1946 version before they became a Royal regiment as is the Leicestershire badge, however it is the Territorial battalion pattern lacking the top Hindoostan scroll. The face of the Sphinx on the Lincolnshire badge fits with it being original but without seeing the backs too hard to tell but could be a nice WW1-2 selection. The later anodised ones are nicely laid out, thanks for sharing, Dean. |

The slider has broken off the back of the Lincolnshire badge, not for the first time by the looks of. Lots of solder there.

The Leicester's badge is nice with the three brazing holes to the bottom scroll but I wonder from the discolouration along the top of the tiger's back on the reverse side did it have a top scroll removed. Badges were often modifies like this when being transferred between regular and TF battalions.
The Lincolnshire cap badge looks fine. Cheers Dean. |
