Default 17/21 Lancer "V eyes" Officers

Hi All

Here is a rare example of a WW2 and Early Cold war bronzed "V-Eyes" with x2 blades E/W. First one I have seen. Officer/SNCO SD cap probably?

Does not look right to me. Finish appears modern. I suspect it’s been mucked with at best.

Sellers other cap badges are all repros, mucked with or modern.

Not one I would touch with a barge pole.

I fully agree with Luke's assessment. A die struck badge that has a strange finish applied with blades that look off as well.

You have messed about with the image to make it look bronze… look I can send it purple, magic purple metal.

I would suggest manipulating tones, vibrancy of a picture can turn it to whatever you desire. The furthest I go with such alterations is to turn brightness up/down.

The last pair of pics have brightness booted to maximum on an iPhone no hint of your bronze. In fact it looks WM on the scratched points and rubbed nose tip.

Verdigris is found on many WM badges, poorer quality ones where presumably the copper content is higher. It may be verdigris, it may be polish.

Notwithstanding neither old polish nor verdigris has ever had a bearing on authenticity unless you subscribe to the views of that peculiar chap on YouTube.

A greybear ebay purchase should be treated with extreme caution as he sells repros by the bucketload.

.... understood. He must have the original die if that's the case.

I don’t doubt the badge itself is from a genuine die but I do doubt, and am in fact quite convinced, that it did not start its life out with either those blades or that finish.

That fact this thread has excess of 300 views on a forum full of collectors and viewed by many dealers, plus was correctly described on eBay with days to run on the auction yet only acheived a maiden £14.99 bid says it all.

..... this particular type of Motto was only proven to be genuine very recently.

* Look at the eye sockets and they go to a deep point. Later examples have a flattened end point probably due to the die getting damaged from production. So the conclusion being that the above example is early production.
