Can anyone tell me where this IY (Imperial Yeomanry?) badge was worn and during what period please? It measure 2 cm high and 2.5 cm wide across the top of the letters.

Below are two pages from KK's which should help.
There's seventeen pages in all covering the badges of the I.Y.. On page 345 shown below, badge 1396 is for General Service, A rosette of scarlet and purple with on this a bronze or brass Prince of Wales's plumes, coronet and motto with separate letters I and Y. Not all units wore the I and Y, for example the 10th Battalion had a Roman Numeral X in brass below the Prince of Wales's plumes on a red and blue rosette (KK 1397). |

" I think you will find that rosette worn IY badges were a bit smaller than the one shown. regards

Here are some more images of the badge with the rosette, I've included an image of the County of London Yeomanry to show how it wasn't intended to be worn along with another showing how it shouldn't.
The officer of the Sharp Shooters is wearing it on the forage cap and you can see that the badge and rosette don't fit. It was intended to be worn on the slouch hat and was also worn on the field service pith helmet. I've added an image from 'Cavalry and Yeomanry Badges of the British Army 1914 by F. Wilkinson' as it's a little clearer than the KK badge showing the separate IY initials. Hope this is of help, I'm not an expert or a collector so I'm unable give an opinion regarding authenticity. from: http://www.paoyeomanry.co.uk/LY190004Badge.htm |

May help if you could clarify it a little more if you have an idea what it is.
I posted the images to show what the design {the Y for example seems off} of the IY should look like and that it was generally worn on the rosette. I'm not sure if his could be part of a shoulder title using the IY, again it's different from examples I've seen, I've only seen connected letters on shoulder titles. Then again could it be a locally produced replacement for a lost item or just a different manufacture? Was there a shoulder title that used an IY that was separated from the title? So what is it then? |

It is the question,
I suppose that if it had been another manufacturer others of that type would have turned up. It looks intact so it's been made to be separate, not an attached part of another badge or name. Looks like this is dead in the water until someone who actually knows what it is comes along. Thanks Simon |
