The shape of the 'V' is not symmetrical, the left hand side of it is vertical whilst the right comes off at an angle like something hinged at the bottom.

Does it represent a military instrument of some type?

regards
Simon ..... its the same V as seen on the button above.

Its a RECCE patch is it not?

The link I gave suggests it is.

It is a badge of modern manufacture with machine merrowed edge. Possibly an item to 5 Regiment Army Air Corps

Possibly, but not definitely. I still believe there's a chance it's related to the NF.

Default More idle speculation to no avail!

Good afternoon.

For heaven's sake! I have tried so very hard to resist contributing to this thread, but can bear this no longer!

Whatever this is, I can tell you what it isn't. It isn't, NF, or more accurately RNF, related.

I have Posted, elsewhere on this Forum, information about the latest Edition on the Badges of the Fifth. It represents over 75 years of collection by one man and includes over five hundred items. This item is not amongst them, and never will be. Why not buy the book?

If one is to speculate, why not be creative and try these options: sport related?; a fashion item?; related to the V-Bomber force?; Victor refueling tankers?

A QC over a V within a wreath of laurels (to the victor a wreath of laurels, remember?), in dark blue on a pale brown-ish background sounds like an RAF item to me, or AAC. But, it is not RNF.

So, can you please leave my county Regiment out of the speculation? Speculation is fine, but at least base it upon something solid.

As to the button on ebay: ex-Carlill Collection out of the Sale earlier this month in Exeter, it's an officers silver-plated example of Wood 514 (1st Ed.) c.1810-1830. Next?

Enjoy.

S.T.

P.S. Remember the words of A Pope Esq.:

A little learning is a dang'rous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.

My dear chap. I am so sorry to be contributing to your ire and insulting the memory of your (former) county regiment. Perhaps you can find it in your heart to forgive me for taking part in the discussion.

Sorry for the absence of a "badly spelt Post" but at least I got my capitalisation right - which you didn't lol.

Good evening.

It isn't my "former" County. And, I didn't get the capitalistion wrong.

Now, why not focus on the original question? Taking part in discussion is what this Forum is all about but please, at least, focus on the probable, not the pointless.

Now, I am off the prepare for having some fun. We're all off to Otterburn! And, you all know what happened there? Don't you? Lots of people came to a very nasty end!

I'm quite happy to focus on the question ST. However I felt I had to respond in kind to your frustrated comments which I felt were directed at least in some part towards me - much the same as you responded to me. One reaps what one sows.

Quite happy to draw a line under it though and move on.
