Canadian WW2 flashlight commando?
I have been wondering about this flashlight, it is WW2 Canadian marked. It has an unusal glass blue lens, no on or off switch but a morse code switch. It is marked WW2 Canadain C arrow and "CCB AP 16001" there is a attached spare bulb container and is made from steel, it has a stand built in to make it easier to use the morse code switch. Could it be some type of commando signaling flashlight, and why the blue lens?

Somewhere I have a photo taken on one of the British beaches on D Day - of a group of soldiers (possibly elements of an SS Bde HQ) crouching beside a knocked out Churchill AVRE. One has a very similar item tucked in the back of his webbing, I'll post the image as soon as I find it - the identity of the item has been eluding me for years.

Herewith (I was wrong about the AVRE). Those with good eyesight can see a BEACH R.E.M.E. shoulder title being worn.

That sure looks like it, but it looks painted white? Still why the blue lens? Or is it like us using the red lens today, concealment and light discipline?
If one did not know what it was it almost looks like a mini pazerfaust! Mike |
