I am right now scanning pics from a former ww2 fighter pilot from FAA. One the pics seems to show this FAA title (only two letters fully visible actually, previous one partially). Interestingly, the two A are dotted (one dot after each) + title worn a few centimeters from the bottom of the left sleeve. Seems to be worn by a young midship or Sub-Lt (1944-45 time window likely assuming the rest of the pics & docs in the lot). Cheers, JD |

To my knowledge officers did not wear cuff badges. The badges were unofficial and private purchase so variations will exist. I would be interested to see your photo. Thanks, Barry |

Hi Barry,
Here you go. Not certain about the first letter, but again this comes from a lot of docs & pics from a ww2 FAA fighter pilot. Served in RNVR early 1944. Actually no rank mark at the bottom of the sleeve on this pic, so likely midship, correct? Cheers, JD |

A midshipman would still be wearing an officer's cap badge. This guy is wearing the badge of a Petty Officer.

Thanks Alex. So, PO (wonder then from rest of lot if men following the officers’ course wore PO uniform at some stage of their training class -was actually so for free french navy men undergoing the officers’ candidate course-?).
Now: anyone thinking of a possible other badge ending by A.A. worn at this position? Don’t see personally. Is this place (left sleeve bottom) the usual place to wear FAA (if this)? Cheers, JD |
