Indeed it is a bit perplexing for some regiments.
But bear in mind some of these will have had further orders placed for all GM badges after April 1916. |

Was there ever a 21st lancers in all brass?

I am no expert on the details of the issue of these badge and would like some further information.
The list Julian has provided for the 1916 tenders is very useful and informative. But, am I interpreting a few posts on here to understand that there were further Productions between 1916 and 1918, that may include additional Regiments/Corps etc badges being produced, that are NOT on the 1916 list? If so is there a further list of additional badges. regards

Yes there will be. Julian was, I believe, intending on further researching some of these?
The lists are invaluable but I would urge a degree of caution. A great many TF badges according to the 1916 lists should exist in all GM and in significant quantities (3-9k) e.g. Suffolk, Lancashire Fusiliers, East Lancashire, Gloucestershire. Yet I’ve never seen a single genuine one. Clearly they no longer, if they ever did, exist. I doubt the 21L will feature on any subsequent all GM orders. As discussed at length in another thread they were in India the whole war. Every all GM badge I’ve seen to them has been spurious. Last edited by Luke H; 12-05-21 at 08:08 PM. I retire next week (phew) and one of my pressing projects is Part 2 of Badges 1st WW etc. They were always going to be difficult because one would have to visit every county archives (for TF Associations - I've only looked through the West Lancs Assoc papers - for obvious reasons). But there are a few important papers at TNA and NAM which I've seen and some others from my sadly missed my co-author on Part 1.
I'm particularly keen to find the "Yeo into Infy in 1917" - probably in one of the WOI series. Last edited by KLR; 13-05-21 at 06:46 AM. |
