Default (RE) Cloth Grenade Badges

I'm sure that most (perhaps even all!) forum members will agree that the way to differentiate between METAL RA/RE grenade/scroll collar badges is simple: RA have 7 flames, RE have 9 flames (7 & additional 2 at the front).

My question is this, do all RE CLOTH grenade badges have 9 flames? Shown are a few examples and I've indicated what I assume them to be, but would be happy to be corrected:

top two - almost certain these are RE Sgt arm badges, note they do have 9 flames. (RA wear the gun badge of course).

3rd - I thought this was a RE Pioneer badge, probably worn above crossed axes. But, if it was worn exclusively by the RE wouldn't it have 2 extra flames? Perhaps it's actually a "bombers" proficiency badge.

4th - Is this a RE Sgt arm badge for No 1 dress? Again, only 7 flames.

Would appreciate any clarification/info on the above.

David

The bottom 2 are possibly for the Grenadier Guards.

Hi Chaps

Many thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

3-0 to Grenadier Guards so far! Are they also Sgt arm badges?

Bottom two right are of course Great War TM and Bomber.

A word to the wise: a lot of private purchase items were made up by major outlets such as Gamages, and, being "old" they are difficult to pick. I think they used one single pattern for RE, Grenadiers, TM and Bomber, the latter two not necessarily coloured if old photos are to be relied on.

There is a great deal of useful info. on these two on the GWF, including dozens of photos of items, and items in wear.

Hi Grumpy

Many thanks for the input, will check out GWF.

I more or less ruled out TM & bomber because I thought they always had coloured flames but obviously not.
