Hi Rachel, yes it is the 1944 pattern wing with what looks like a piece of hemp/rope padding showing on the reverse. Although produced during WW2, these were worn into the 1950's and 60's to use existing stocks I believe.

That is correct Jack. Certainly the 50s.

Though called the 44 pattern this version is post war, C. 1950's which would go with the titles you also showed. Nice wings.

Hi Jerry,

I don't think that this is a post war c1950's version. From what I understand there are two types of wartime production '44 pattern wings. One has the white chute rigging in four pairs of twisted thread with a long piece of rope padding and the other has four single twisted rigging thread with shorter rope padding.

Please can you explain the features of this wing that lead you to your conclusion?

Jack

sorry to go off on a tangent, but can anyone who knows better than me confirm or refute if the sas wing has been changed in the last couple of years?

or is it more likely that a bad batch of copies have surfaced?

Default New wings?

Evening Bewley that's pretty cryptic mate?
Different how?
There's various differences in manufacturing of course but are you suggesting that there's a poorly made wing being touted as original?
Any pictures to assist mate?
Regards
Jon

Jon
I was at the Malvern fair last weekend, I was showing one of the dealers pictures of my SF items. He said 'ooh, you hav'nt got the new issue one then'.
He had a wing in a frame of badges which he said has been current issue for 'about 2 years'. The blue was more turquoise than blue, in my opinion, and the top rigging lines [horizontal] only had about 3 loops, not close stitched.

After I declined to buy it, he got a bit snotty and would not let me photograph it, which made me suspicious.

Have the colours changed?

People go way too deep into this subject. This is my set of wings issued to me after my jumps. The wings are made by various suppliers so colours and threads will change slightly. Very rarely worn if you can be bothered to get them sewn onto anything, most don't.

Default Latest wings

Here we go Bewley.
Latest and been around for a few years.
Gavin is right that the colours will change through manufacturers.
However every member of the regiment has No2 dress equivalent with wings on it.
There's even been talk of Wings on chest idea being implemented over the years when AFG was in its prime.

He got a bit "snotty" LOL!
I wonder who that might have been.
