SAMR medical Section
Hi SABrigade,
I saw your reference to the SAMR and SAMC and thought I would share the following picture of two SAMR members circa 1915. One of these is badged as a medical orderly but also wearing SAMR cap badge and shoulder titles. This leads me to believe the medical section of the SAMR wore SAMR insignia and not SAMC insignia. The SAMC (ACF) was formed in 1913 from the 3 volunteer medical corps (Volunteer Cape Medical Corps, Transvaal Volunteer Staff Medical Corps and Natal Medical Corps). I stand corrected but I believe the SAMC (PF) was formed in the twenties by merging of Permanant medical officers and staff from SAMR. I am aware the officers wore blue serge (dress blues) with embroidered/bullion collar badges and PF helmet/cap badge. I suspect they wore SAMC badges at a later stage. If you do have more info on this permanant unit, please correct my above statement. Regards Steven |

Hi Steven, My apologies, for some reason I missed your response/statement. I agree totally with your statement, I have also not yet found a medal group to the Medical branch of the SAMR. I believe they wore the standard trade/proficiency badges as shown here as part of my badge collection. The red cross brassard would have the UDF stamp/markings on it, I have one in my collection. Regards, Will |

I spent time in December rearranging my SAMR display and collection as well as adding some items. I apologise if there are any repetitions of my previous posts regarding the SAMR. |
