So Gaylor & Wilkinson, in their books, show something hideous..... but the same type....... and K&K are on the money

And the 1904 Regs are too! Just to put this to bed here's the one I got last week. The photo wasn't too good, the seller wasn't selling any other badges, just other collectables and it had a shank so I took a punt as the only genuine OR's ones I know of also have this rather than loops. Not expensive but worth a go just in case.

hmmmmm that slider one is nasty (now that I have seen the light).
As for the 1904 Regs pic..... its actually on the money ... "BUT" what you have to remember with the 1900s "Reg's" books is that all the images were "touched up" or badly edged or highlighted over because of poor photography in those days I have purchased two duffers this week at the total cost of £20..... live n learn. Hopefully the Officers DHY that is on its way will make up for the loss

ref the Cavalry Project Nellie: Opinion at the time (the Cav Proj is mine by the way) was that it was OK - Mike will have to make a comment about it being a fake then.... Maybe someone who has a real one - sounds like that might be difficult to do. Doesn't it.... I had a couple and of the two this one stood out as looking much better than the other one. That'll be one badge that is goind to be hard to get hold of - if at all.. David |

Here is the Nelly that appears in Wilkinson and Gaylor..... its strikes me as a pouch badge and not a cap badge?

(setting aside the known "good" B&P type Nelly for a moment.)
I am scratching my chin a bit here..... take a look at these two...... my Nelly...... and another..... but just take a good look.

Hi Griff,
The only thing that has jumped out at me so far, is the positioning of the ear ?? Dave. |

Dave
So you cant see the huge feet on the loops...... the different die flaws in the back of the badge..... the bigger eye and the lack of crisp detail in the front of the badge?

Keith
Can we see a photo of this one at an angle so the edge of the slider can be seen and also looking into the braised fixing area please? The slider reminds me of this 1RD slider... can you see a faint groove in the slider on the Nelly..... where the black line is on the slider of the 1RD?

Cash to Splash! 19th Huss Double Scroll?
Quote:
£450... you're having a "Bubble Bath", I think you may have to move the decimal point to the left at least twice! Good luck if it sells, if you are going to use the Forum Albums as a shop window, then please use it for confirmed genuine items and not confirmed copies! Double Scroll Pagri?
What about this one?
Evidence shows "Elephants" were worn as Pagri badges well after the date KK/Gaylor has them as obsolete? Andy |

You could buy that one at Yate about 18 months ago for £5.

It's total rubbish. The photos I have posted show that post 1920 a scrolless elephant was worn by the 19th H Sqn in the 15/19 Hussars.
http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...lephant&page=9 The double scroll badge was not the one worn post WW1. |
