2nd Regt of Foot
Hi,
I have recently seen this button, claiming to be a button of the West Surrey Regiment, 2nd Regt of Foot. It has what appears to be a naval crown?? Despite extensive research, I cannot find this pattern of button used by this Regiment. Even Parkyn makes no mention of it in his "Shoulder Belt Plates & Buttons." Thought perhaps it was an Indian Regt, but scouring all 7 volumes of Poulsom's "Buttons of the Indian Army" has not confirmed this. I am aware that the West Surreys were at one point in their history attached to naval ships, and could have earned this change to the normal monarch's crown?? Can anyone help please?? Hi there,
This button came up once before (towards bottom of the following thread) : http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...=surrey+button The last post in the thread states that "...the information on that "naval crown + 2" button has been taken from a manufacturer's sample book: Queen's Royal - blazer (no date of die given) ". Hope that helps steer you in the right direction at least. Cheers Ian |

The Queens Royal Regiment (west Surrey) served as marines and it is worth visiting the website of the Queens Royal Surreys. The website contains much detail about the regimental insignia.
