Gordon Highlanders Without Broken Antlers
The first Gordon Highlanders badge I got looked nice (got the thumbs up from members of this site), but was broken (I can't remember now if I knew that when I bought it - probably not).
In the desire to have a full rack I bought another, not as nice, but is it genuine for WWII? |

Ddev,
I’m no expert. But I have an identical one(4 voids on RHS),antler tips going though middle of the flowers, and no voids b/w scrolls and hooves, that I came to the conclusion was good by reading many posts on this forum. I vote for original for what it is worth. Todd |

I am going to have remain unsure with regard to that badge. This is what I call the ugly fat nose version and they are rather crude throughout with few voids and thick features. I have avoided examples like this all along, but that said, they may indeed just crude but genuine wartime make.
I show my OR versions and all are very different from the badge in question. CB

I hear you. I ended up getting a second Gordon’s badge because I was unsure of the first badge for so long. The one I have is actually struck off center and not the best strike.
Here is a link with discussion of what I think is a badge from the same die. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...on+highlanders |

Perhaps this is a better link to some opinions on the mournful stag you show in post 1. The badge shown in Todd's link has the BYDAND motto split into two words BY DAND which yours doesn't. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...on+highlanders Dating a Gordon's Badge accurately to a particular timeframe such as WWII would I think be quite a difficult call unless you had cast iron provinence. The basic design stayed the same but with many manufacturing variations. Just a quick note regarding the design. There are no flowers or hooves I'm afraid only rock ivy. The ivy I believe represents some sort of thread of Strathbogie, Lochinver and Haddo to the Gordon family (House of Gordon). Happy to be put right there though. I think it’s genuine. Your photos could be a bit sharper though! PY.

Thank you everyone for weighing in on this badge.
Dubaiguy thanks for directing me to that previous post. The second badge talked about does look like the badge I have. The one point about the badge in question is the accentuated pupils. Most of the examples I see do not have that. |
