Northamptonshire Regiment Help Needed
Hi All,
I'm trying to make up a set of officers badges for the Northamptonshire Regiment during WW1 and need a little help. I have an OSD cap badge and am looking for shoulder titles and collar badges but I'm not sure what to get. Neil S has these titles in his album: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ctureid=212011 If I'm reading Westlake's correctly I think the officers one is the bottom left version, can anyone confirm that? This page has a few different collar badges on: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...id=4669&page=2 Would any of those be officers ones? Thanks for the help. Michael |

Thanks a lot, that explains why I'm struggling to find the right ones.
Thanks, Michael |

Michael, the officers service dress collars were the same size as the cap badges with loops instead of blades.

Identical design to the cap badge I assume? Michael |

Northamptonshire Regiment
Michael, I have some badges for an officer who served in the Great war which consist of a cap badge with blades and a pair of collar badges exactly the same size and design as the cap badge with loops.
Many dealers insist that OSD collars with loops which are the same size and design as the cap badge are cap badges and sell them for a higher price. Of course they may have been worn as cap badges, but they are collars nonetheless. Rob |

Dave2c (RIP) revealed that he was commissioned by one of his dealer mates to replace lugs on bronze collars with blades. His work was superb so I doubt a buyer would ever realise the replacement.

That's not so good Alan.
I've spotted two so far, both listed as cap badges, both over £40. Michael |

I think the problem with the full sized collars is that over the years what were originally matching pairs have been broken up and sold on as cap badges, it’s really only come to light since this forum has been around that bladed are caps and looped are collars.
Trying to pair ones bought as singles can take forever, not only matching the front, there’s the rear and amount of wear to take into account. From experience I’ve found it best to try and get hold of a maker marked one and then try and find similar. There are variations but there’s a better chance of them being the same with the amount of wear being the only variation. I do have a spare single but I don't think it’s mm’d. |

From what little I've seen they don't seem to be particularly easy to find, is that because they have all been altered or is it just a rare regiment.

Northants OSD collars
Michael, when I bought the Officers badges one collar badge was missing, it took me some years to find another and it's not a great match.

Who was the dealer? By PM please, I wouldn't want to cause problems for the forum administration.

I take it from the resounding silence that the identity of the dealer that was mentioned was never revealed? How on earth are we supposed to know which dealers we can and which dealers we can't trust?
