Hertfordshire Regiment
Hi Gents,
Posting these three "suspects" for opinions if possible. Regards Kevin |

Hi Kevin,
In my opinion all three are fake. If you are after an example of a genuine Hertfordshire Regiment cap badge, let me know as I have a tin full. I don't have any of the so called "wide antler" variants spare which your examples are trying to be, but they aren't the best looking example of the badge anyway. All the best, Andrew |

I agree that the left and middle are bad, but the right looks like it might stand a chance to me.

However, on closer inspection the left hand badge could possibly be one manufactured by F.N. B'HAM (Frederick Narborough) or possibly F. E. WOODWARD B'HAM with an unmarked shank so could possibly be a good one. The middle badge has the tell tale fault between the right hand antler and the "H" of sHire which I believe shows the possible worn WOODWARD die being used to restrike this badge. Good clear close up shots, front, back and sides of the first badge would be a great help in determining authenticity. That being said the same goes for the other two as well. That one is fine. It is similar, but not the same.

What do you make of these two? Is the H fault that the I appears slightly lower down?

The first one looks pitted, like its been in the ground and then cleaned up?

Phil,
are you referring to my badges in post 9? |

That is good news, I was worried for a minute there as I am not clear what the nature of the faults are on the fakes. Maybe I should get some reading glasses.

The fault is a dent for want of a better word that is on the inner ring. I will try and find a picture that I should have to illustrate better.
