Duff Badges
I have been offered a collection of badges that had been won over a period of time from an auction site we are all familiar with. These badges here i threw out from the collection because i didn't like them. The guy didn't agree with me and said that he would like a second opinion and would accept the views of this forum. The pictures and comments will show members new and old how to distinguish the good from the rubbish.

Nearly all are fakes. The Royal hussars did adopt a metal badge that was privately bought instead of the same ones.

Hi Micky
As as Alan says all fakes and horrible one's too.I would get rid of them as soon as possible. Except for the QC cavalry one's,as Alan says possibly private purchase. Rgds Neil |

Middle picture top row - HAC and Tyneside Scottish-Definitely no good? Not sure myself though the TS lion 'arms' may be too straight. Regards, Paul.

The HAC looks ok, just worn?

The blue cloth background looks genuine, not much else though.

Would welcome opinion on bad points re the HAC badge over the Tyneside Irish for my own education. Not a clear picture to me but if there is something obvious I would like to know. Cheers, Paul.

The Tyneside Irish badge, if it was genuine, would not have a slider as they were not cap badges, they were shoulder titles and would have lugs. The standard NF badge was worn in the cap.

Hello Hoot-I was trying to identify which of the two HAC badges I was asking about- above the fake. Tyneside badge. Regards, Paul.

Sorry Paul, that's old age for you. The gm HAC might possibly stand a chance but I wouldn't risk it myself. I would look at the other crap and take my business elsewhere. The last thing these people need is encouragement.

How much for the lot as I'm looking to make another belt of badges for another grandson?

I think I'd much rather give a belt of original badges to someone, in particular, a child, moreover, it need not be expensive, there are many common badges that can be found without any difficultly whatsoever, that cost very little.

I couldn't agree more. Anyway, buying and selling duffs through the forum is not allowed any more.
