Default Prince Edwards Guard

I have attached an image of a Boer War badge worn by a volunteer unut known as Prince Edward's Guard - does anyone have any details of this unit, which appears to have had links with the Oxfordshire Light Infantry.

Sorry, I pressed the wrong button - although this mounted infantry badge may be of interest. The volunteer badge should be shown below:

Stanley,
do you collect the odd Bridle Boss (or Martingale badge) also ??
I'm quite interested in them & have a few different ones.
'Infantry Mounted Officers' was one of my latest purchases.
Cheers !

The badge posted to illustrate the original topic of the thread is actually Prince Alfred's Guard - A South African Unit.

If this is the badge you meant to post see the following link.

regards

John

Default prince alfreds guard

Hi Stanley,
What you have is a Helmet Plate of Prince Alfreds Guard worn 1874-1890's they had a strengh of 250 which included a Scottish company, they originated from Port Elizabeth in the Cape Colony. They fought in the ninth kaffir war in 1887, the Boer war,and were attached to the 6th SA Armoured Division who fought in Italy in WW2.The badge is Number 40 in Owens Book on South African Badges. This Badge, as all South African Victorian badges are becoming very collectable.

Hope this was of help Garry.

Steve - No, I am afraid I have no bridle boses. These South African badges are not mine; they belong to the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Museum.

Gary - Thank you for the information. I was wondering if the stringed bugle on the badge had any particular significance, bearing in mind that the SA badges were brought back to the UK by members of the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. Could there have been a link-up, perhaps if members of the two units had served in the same mounted column?
